SJSEMS Becomes First SC School to Earn NWF EcoSchools U.S. Green Flag Certification
St. James-Santee Elementary Middle School is proud to announce that we have achieved Green Flag level certification through the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) EcoSchools U.S. program. We are the first school in South Carolina to achieve this level of certification through NWF, and we are honored to join a network of thousands of schools globally committed to a more sustainable and just world.
SJS Science Fair 2026
The 2026 SJS Science Fair was a tremendous success! We are grateful to all of our presenters, community partners, educators, families, and scholars whose participation and support made this event such a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
Learning Takes Flight: SJS Scholars Go Bird Watching
SJS Scholars enjoyed an incredible day of learning with special guests from Audubon South Carolina and the Charleston Natural History Society. Our visitors shared a wealth of knowledge about local birds, flora, and fauna—and generously gifted our school a brand new BirdBuddy Pro! This exciting addition will allow our scholars to observe, track, and research local birds all year long, extending their learning well beyond the classroom.

St. James-Santee Scholars Create SJS Nature Field Guide

On the Road to Excellence
St. James-Santee Elementary has earned a “Good” rating on this year’s South Carolina School Report Card — increasing our overall score by 8 points! Way to go Hornets!
Beanstack Traveling Trophy Winners
Smiles all around as classes celebrate winning the SJS Beanstack Traveling Trophy for logging the most reading minutes! The trophy travels from classroom to classroom throughout the month, inspiring friendly competition and a love of reading.

SJS Tailgate with Dad 2026
SJS scholars enjoyed an exciting day filled with athletic games, STEM challenges, and team-building activities during our “Tailgate with Dad” Field Day event. We were thrilled to welcome dads, granddads, and uncles to campus to partner with our scholars and help lead the fun. A heartfelt thank-you to all of the incredible men in our SJS community who gave their time and energy to make this day so special.
